I cast on 390 stitches for a feather and fan shawl from Cheryl Oberle's Folk Shawls book.
The other day I did the same thing...on a different circular needle - size 8 needles which are 32 inches long. Wasn't long enough, and I fought with the wooden needles on the end and how it interacted with the yarn. Cherry Tree Hill Alpine Lace, which has silk and mohair in it. So.....I had decided to get some Addi Turbo size 8s, 47 inch circular. No problem.
Well, yes problem. When I started the knitting, all was ok, until i got to the row where the pattern kicked in to the knitting. Then I found I was one stitch short in one place and one stitch over in another area and tried to compensate. Long story short, I ripped the whole thing out.
Anyone who has "tinked" or ripped out something with mohair will know it's not as easy as it sounds, so that took a little longer than typical.
390 cast on stitches - that's alot.
Cool! Have you read The Friday Night Knitter's Club? Excellent book. You would enjoy the knitting stuff throughout the story.

That must have been frustrating! I know nothing about knitting, but that little strand you have done looks very pretty.

H, Cathy, I don't know how to get to you since you sent me a comment on Bill, so until I find out, this is it. It was a real blow - we had just reconciled after 17 years of feud, and just in time, it seems. Thanks be to God.
Re the knitting - very pretty yarn. I have to tell you that it takes a lot for me to rip out. I am big on saying things like "I meant to do that" or "It's a design element, silly!" Sometimes it even works.
See you in August, MJ
