Million Dollar Friday Five
Singing Owl of Revgalblogpals Friday Five poses the Friday Five question:
Lingering effects of a cold have me watching more television than usual. There appears to be a resurgence of the old daytime staple--the quiz show. Except they are on during prime time, and a great many of them offer the chance of winning one million dollars.
I think it started with Regis Philbin and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" but now we have a half dozen or so.
My husband and I started musing (after watching "Deal or No Deal") about what we could do with a million dollars. I thought I'd just bring that discussion into the Friday Five this week. It's simple. What are five things you would want to do with a million dollar deposit in your bank account?
- I would set aside 10% for church, but in a specific way. Giving a good chunk to a small church can create problems - hopefully would be wise in how I would allocate it.
- Pay bills
- Take the family on a nice one week cruise vacation (ok, I would want my cousins and Aunt and Uncle to go also!)
- Buy enough years in my retirement to flesh out the rest of my teaching years to get full 30 year retirement.
- Invest the rest wisely.
And what would YOU do with a million dollars???

Enjoy that vacation!!! Like you I've been kinda practical!!!

My, so practical! And good sense about giving a lot to the church -- you don't want to forestall others from giving, you don't want to throw your weight around, and (my opinion anyway) you don't want it just sitting in an endowment that's never used while needed programs aren't funded.

I like what you said about your church (I'm a pastor and I only thought of OTHER charities, what's wrong with me???), and also about a cruise. We took one one, but only when we won a prize. It would be cool to do it again.

Very good list. You're wise and fun.

Very wise and practical...Only one week of vacation? ;-) Wouldn't it be nice to give 10% in a wise way? I know what you mean about giving a chunk of money to a small church, but it would be fun to figure something out!

Very good advice to earmark the big church donation. In my case I think I'd want my largesse to help pay off what's left of our new sanctuary debt.

I'm looking for number 6: throw a big party for all my blogging friends, with no expense spared ....

I think a cruise sounds wonderful. I'd be putting my vote in for an Inside Passage cruise in Alaska, with a multitude of sidetrips.

We would probably just break even with a million dollars! HA! Although a cruise does sound like fun...

You are right about #1...someone left our church $300,000 for flowers on th alter, as long as we never used artificial flowers. How's that for specific? I dream of paying off bills, fixing the house, and fattening up my retirement accounts, too. As for the family vacation, we would love to be on the coast of Maine for sailing, kayaking, and boogie boarding.
