I have been a bit discombobulated this week. It seems i have finished all the books and I didn't have one officially being read. So I was in a lull and have been having a hard time getting the rhythm of several books going.
A friend of mine forwarded me one of her favorite books as a child, The Hundred Dresses, and I checked it out of our school library. In an hour's time, I had read one of the most genuinely tender stories of a young girl, Wanda, who claims to have one hundred dresses, yet only wears one dress day after day. Children, of course, do not believe her claim and gossip ensues. Wanda also has a last name which is Polish and is teased for that also.
Wanda is absent for a few days from school and the other students learn she has moved. She moves to a city where there are plenty of funny names and no one makes fun of that anymore. Find out about the hundred dresses and where they find them.
A wonderful story about compassion and friendship and the relationships that are typical of elementary students.
Our 10 year old daughter just read it this evening and really enjoyed it. I am glad I read this beautifully tender story.
