Ahem

I was walking down the hall of the local Headstart today with several containers in hand and bags on my shoulder. The hall was full with a line of children. Several of them yelled "Hi GRANDMA" in their sweet little voices.

Do I look like a grandma??? I'm old enough to be one, but ahem. Nada.

Tapping foot. . . . . . . .  .  .  .  .    .    .    .    .     .     .     .     .       .      .      .

You know if you need to comment.

Book #9 - No Ordinary Time

As its title states, it was No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II. Doris Kearns Goodwin's book on the life of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt during FDR's presidency shares with the reader some of the most intimate times in the White House.

Today's media is certainly different from more than half a century ago. The journalist and news folks knew what times to take pictures and when to allow for privacy. Roosevelt's inability to walk, his complicated relationships, the menagerie of folks who lived in the White House seemed to be protected from the public's eye.

I didn't actually READ this book - I listened to it on CD. However, it's a book I WANT to read now. The book made me crave wanting more information on Eleanor Roosevelt, a woman way before her time. Goodwin describes Roosevelt in a way which shares her compassionate qualities, her leadership skills but also the darker side to Eleanor Roosevelt's depression.

Excellent book. Read it if you like historical books and /or biographies.

What are YOU reading?

Speechless

This week:

I have had 6 IEP meetings

we have an end of year "graduation program" for our preschool with all parents attending

Wednesday night, I had a tickle in my throat.
Thursday morning - it was evident I have a case of:

LARYNGITIS.
I know everyone was glad when the meeting was over yesterday, since they had to listen to me attempt to talk. Yeah, there really was not any other choice - I am the child's teacher, I am the one who knows him the best and this is the one I REALLY wanted to push to be served in the least restrictive setting. It was a GOOD meeting, except people had to listen to my voice - ack.

So this morning is the end of the year preschool program ( we have 10 more days of school left). Thank goodness there are those who will be doing the rest of the talking - I think we can make it so I don't have to officially say anything.  However, I will be glad when I can rest the voice this weekend.

Y'all leave the light on for me, ok?

FrazzledgifIt's been that kind of week. School paperwork and then teaching on top. Desk is close to be condemned. I am scared to see what I might unearth and see that I have forgotten.

Long IEP meeting this afternoon.

Y'all hang in there with me ok?

Our Walk

This is my first attempt at using the video feature on my new camera. We walked along the river today, which runs through our town. Our total walk was about 4.5 miles. Slow and meandering, with stops along the way to enjoy the scenery. The video is a little shaky at times, but again, we were playing and having fun.

Friday 5 - Wait and Pray

Sally at Revgalblogpals writes:
Part of the Ascension Day Scripture from Acts 11 contains this promise from Jesus;

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Then he was taken from their sight into the clouds, two angels appeared and instructed the probably bewildered disciples to go back to Jerusalem, where they began to wait and to pray for the gift Jesus had promised.

Prayer is a joy to some of us, and a chore to others, waiting likewise can be filled with anticipation or anxiety....

So how do you wait and pray?

1. How do you pray best, alone or with others?
Praying "best" is an interesting term, because what does that mean? Does it mean what I think is best? I enjoy corporate prayer is the one in which I am most comfortable.  However, sometimes I think the praying I do when I see someone I don't know, but can tell needs prayer because of something I can see, may be some of my best. No one knows I am praying and the prayer is for someone I don't even know.

2. Do you enjoy the discipline of waiting, is it a time of anticipation or anxiety?
It depends on what the waiting is for!  In relationship to waiting during prayer, there have been people who I have been in prayer with that I thought enough had been said.
If the waiting is for waiting in general..... well, waiting for a lab results which could be life changing - THAT produces way too much anxiety.

3. Is there a time when you have waited upon God for a specific promise?
I try to be patient and not pray with promises on MY part. God's promises are already there - in God's time.

4. Do you prefer stillness or action?
In prayer? I enjoy the stillness of contemplative prayer. However, I am hoping that the actions we perform on a daily basis can be included as acts of prayer. And I hope that even when I am not "actively praying", that I can be praying also.

5. If ( and this is slightly tongue in cheek) you were promised one gift spiritual or otherwise what would you choose to receive?
I NEED the GIFT OF ORGANIZATION! Ok, that was a prayer.

How about you?

Teh Party

engparty24, originally uploaded by catnipper.

Prior to the party, we gathered at the front door to capture us while we are all in one place (note we still had a few missing from the clan). However, daughter in red was stunning in her dress as she was and her fiance (behind her on the left) were ones for which the party was given.

The shoes (uh, old lady shoes) looked and felt comfortable at the store. However, after several hours my feet were killing me. I was afraid to sit down for fear of not getting up and being able to move my feet again. The should have been comfortable - the brand name has that kind of reputation you know. Anyway, beyond that, we had a great time celebrating an engagement AND a soon to be new member of our family!
